I brought my new kitten home this afternoon. Stella is not happy, hissing and growling and just plain pissed. They haven’t met face to face yet. Roslin is in the bathroom with her new bed, her liter, food, and toys. She’s still drinking kitten milk, but is also eating food. She’s so freakin small, I’m not sure when I’ll be able to let her roam around freely. And I’m worried about her and Stella. I’ve never introduced a kitten into the mix before and Stella is a very shy cat. I’m the only person Stella likes, she hides when other people come over. I’m hoping she’ll take to the kitten quickly. I just got her to calm down after listening to her growl for over 2 hours. Oy!
Here are two pictures of the new peanut.
Here is Roslin on my sister’s lap.
Here is my sister, Shel, holding the peanut.
Have a great weekend!!!!
That’s a very nice name. I like it.
Introducing kittens into the mix is never a fun thing. We’ve never done it the way the experts say too. Other than putting them in the extra bathroom or bedroom for a day or two we put ’em right in with the others. Experts say to wait up to several weeks before doing it.
But one thing we’ve done and it’s seemed to help somewhat is this. Take a towel and rub it on the kitten. Make sure the whole towel, both sides, gets rubbed good and well with her scent. Then rub it on Stella, all over her too. Go back and forth a few times. Allow them to sniff at each other and hear each other through the door too.
Stella will need extra loving from you for quite a while and will probably even show jealousness so be careful.
I could go on and on with the experiences we’ve had over the years. We both started out with 2 each. Over the 12 years we’ve had 8 plus his sister lived with for a short while and she had 1 so that’s 9. Yeah, we’ve had fun.
Good luck and congratulations!!
AWWWWWW, what a sweet little peanut!
I like the name.
I’ve never owned a cat, so I have no words of wisdom on how the assimilation ought to go… But she’s so cute!
Aww… so cute!!!!!! I love kittens :).
Have you tried Dr. Google to see if he’s got any answers on how to ease the new kitten in and let the cats befriend one another?
It can be done, I’m sure :). Congrats on the new baby kitty!
She’s adorable. Good luck with getting them to make nice.
I’ve only had 2 cats. When we brought the 2nd kitty home, we just threw her in there with the other guy and he loved her instantly, so I have nothing to offer. Hope Stella Marie falls in love soon.
Triple awwwwwwww!!!! So very cute! 🙂
Roslin is precious! We did the separation thing in different rooms and then did supervised togetherness time and finally let them live happily ever after together. Our two still wrestle and bite each other’s necks, but get along pretty well overall.
Another thing we did was to put a baby gate up and let them see and sniff each other through that.
Kitty looks like it has on some pompous crown in the first pic.
katrina: I’ve been doing exactly that. Stella is calming down somewhat. She hisses when she walks past the door, but she’s being lovable to me again and she’s eating again. Thanks you so much for your advice.
lizzle: Thank you. She’s such a little thing.
amber: Of course I have and of course so many article contradict each other.
lex: No, Stella isn’t being that open. I wish they fell in love instantly.
shadowdog: Thanks. She’s a sweetheart too.
b.: I’ll try the baby gate thing too. That’s a good idea.
portland: I know. My beloved chair. Hee hee.
Awww .. hello cutie pie. What a sweet lokking kitten.
Mine still hiss and carry on when they see each other .. he’s 6 and she’s like 15 or older. He likes to think he’s boss ..
