Some things I don’t understand:
- Why the old lady next door won’t leave me be for one day? Every weekend, I always want one day to just unwind. I watch the shows I DVR’d (new word!), I read, I nap, and I write. I don’t get out of my jammies and I don’t talk. It’s nice. Or it should be nice. The old lady was yelling up at my window this morning. YELLING UP AT MY WINDOW! That just doesn’t fly with me. I hate people yelling for me anyhow, but I’m in my house…my private sanctuary…and she’s screaming up at me. I was so mad, my stomach was clenching.
- Why do people still smoke? Tell me why. It is the worst thing you can do to yourself and yet people still do it. It’s not like alcohol, where having a drink a day is actually good for you, smoking will kill you. It will. And I’m an ex-smoker. I don’t even know how I smoked before. I find the behavior disgusting. My favorite smokers are the people that are supposed to be health freaks, work out and eat right, who totally erase all the good they’re doing to their bodies every time they light up. I just don’t get it. I don’t even know how they afford to smoke. People need to stop smoking.
- Why aren’t people more angry about our government? I’m not talking about those who complain in private. I want to know where are the protesters? When I really think about it, I don’t think the what’s happening today would have been tolerated in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. The public didn’t stand for this type of government. They certainly wouldn’t have accepted the gas prices. Where are the fucking protests? Where are the discenting voices? How about we stop taking pharmaceutical drugs, we stop going to doctors who are educated drug dealers with credentials, we stop driving everywhere and get off our fat asses and ride a bike or (gasp!) walk, we stop paying more attention to who Lindsay Lohan is fucking and pay more attention to actual news, we stop allowing our public officials to get away with the corruption and start holding them to the promises they made when they were begging for our votes…does anyone care? I know people are lazy, but fucking hell. I write to my officials/politicians once a week. I even check to see what my congressman and senator’s attendance records are. It’s interesting to see what they’re doing. And I don’t have any idea if they’re actually reading my emails, but I feel better complaining to those who are actually pissing me off than my friends. Now, I think it’s time the people of this country start getting seriously pissed. The government must be reminded that it works for us. It’s time to wake the fuck up. Stop shopping and watching TV and texting and emailing and dumbing down. Let’s go.
- Why are they opening up two Wallmarts near my house? This is destroying me. I hate Wallmart. I don’t shop there, will not shop there, and think that it is an evil company that is the exact opposite of what America is all about. Wallmart is new to my area. For years, there was only one store open about 45 minutes away from me. I was there once. I bought the 7th Harry Potter book there. But, I hated the fact that I bought it there so much I gave the book away and bought it again at a local small bookstore at regular price to appease my conscience. The company destroys small businesses and towns, and I still can’t believe that people actually shop there. I believe in karma and I cannot give my money to a company that is so disgusting. I’ll pay an extra 50 cents for shit. It’s not that deep. I will be so sad if my favorite hardware store and other shops close because of this.
- Why I can’t say no to animals needing a home? I’m getting another baby. It’s a kitten. He/she is 4 weeks old and I’ll find out the sex when the woman takes the liter to the vet this week. I got Roslin from the same woman. The babies are being handfed, just like Roslin was. Their mommy left them and this woman called me because she just received the picture I sent her of Roslin. I sent the picture because Roslin turned one last Sunday. Well, the woman called me and I said yes and soon I’ll have three cats and that’s it. I’m going to have to seriously start dating or I fear I’ll have to allow everyone to make fun of me for being a cat lady. I wish I could take in all of the homeless animals in the world, but I can’t. I find it very hard to say no to these babies. I love animals. All of them. Even the gross ones. What can I say…deep down I’m a big softie.
That’s all for now. Enjoy some pictures of Roslin over the year.
I do not know why people continue to smoke either!
I hope that you had some rest this weekend. Good luck on the new kitty, everything happens for a reason. He needs a good mom and you are a great kitty mom.
I think regarding protesting..its sort of looked at in a negative light now. You see someone protesting (something you may agree with) and most people look and say “get a job” or what have you. I think its easier for most people to just sit still and complain.
Roslin still seems like a baby to me.
Walmart has destroyed my hometown. The downtown used to have 2 mom and pop grocery stores, several clothing stores, a true indie record store, a real bakery, coffeeshops . . . all the things that make a downtown great. Then walmart came to town, attached to a mall, and the downtown was almost abandoned. There was a slow resurgance, until they built a new building and opened Super Walmart, with maps sent out in the newspaper and kids on rollerblades to help people find the area they wanted. Downtown died again. It is trying to make a comeback, but it is so fucking hard to get anything to stay open for more than a year. Right now it is mostly furniture stores, antique stores, bars, and a couple of restaurants.
You have very good questions. I especially relate to the smoking and the animals. I used to smoke as well and for the life of me can’t understand why people want to do it. I don’t even want to be subjected to second hand smoke outside. It’s bad for your health and it’s bad for the environment as well. And I absolutely can’t say no to animals. I’m horrible. I am still the cat lady of our neighborhood. Roselyn has gotten very pretty. She’s almost the spitting image of the outside mama kitty i gave away after she broke her leg. And if Roselyn has any of the personality that my mama kitty did she’s a wonderful cat. Can’t wait for pics of the new baby!! I have two here that still need a home you want them?? 😛
Your passion is why I love you. It’s so weird that I feel this incredible bond w/ you even though we’ve never met. We’ll have to finally meet one day.
(please don’t take that in a weird way)
Happy belated birthday, Roslin!
My form of protest for the high gas prices is not driving. I’m just staying home since I don’t want to pay $4.20/gallon. I only make two trips a week now. Saturdays I drive 6 miles round trip to the grocery store and back and Sundays we drive 30 miles round trip to church and back. J. obviously still has to go to work, but as long as I’m on maternity leave and gas is ridiculous I’m really limiting my trips.
What bugs me the most about smokers are the ones with children. Or I should say the ones that do it in their homes and vehicles with the kids there. I have to give my SIL credit, she has never smoked in her own home or car. Well, the car when her son isn’t with her, but not her house. You wouldn’t know walking into her house that she’s a smoker if you didn’t know her. But I really can’t believe my husband’s youngest sister. She didn’t even smoke until AFTER she had her baby. She claims she never smokes in her apartment but it certainly smells like it. Just yuck!
Yeah, HD has a hard time when they bring kittens into the station. He wants to bring them home. But we’re trying to hold out to get a dog. We agreed that when we’re down to two cats we’ll get one. We have three now. Or if we move into a different home with a large fenced in back yard. Which that now looks like it’s not going to happen. So it’ll have to wait for the two cat rule. It is hard though. We were up to 7 cats at one time several years ago.
Happy birthday to Roslin. She is a beauty.
I especially agree with the smoking one and your first one about being left alone. I love a day also where I talk to no one on the phone (I hate the fucking phone!!!) and where I can do what I want and not get dressed. You never did say what you actually said to the lady who yelled at your window.
I agree with the smoking thing also. I think it’s disgusting.
And Roslyn is just too cute! I am allergic to cats, so, alas, cannot have one, but I live vicariously through those that do, so please be sure to post pics of your new one.
There is an entire warehouse full of things I don’t understand, and people still smoking in this day and age is in the front lobby right behind nonalcoholic beer.
